 401(k) Plan Overview
 DetailsEmployee Action Needed
EligibilityPlan has a 30 day waiting period before payroll contributions can begin. You may make an active election or change at any time with Principal and it will be reported to United Rentals once applicable.Decide on a contribution percentage (1-80%) and elect as either Pretax and/or Roth. You may contribute up to IRS limits.
Auto-EnrollmentIf no action is taken within first 30 days from hire/rehire to make an election, non-union employees will be automatically enrolled. Auto Enrollment starts at a 4% pretax contribution rate.If you do not want to be auto enrolled you need to either make a 0% election to not participate or election the % that you wish to start at.
Auto-EscalationIf auto enrolled your contribution rate will increase by 1% each April 1st until you either reach 15% or take action to elect otherwise.Review and adjust escalation settings if desired.
Employer ContributionsNon-union employees will receive employer matching contributions at a rate of 100% on the first 1% contributed, and 50% on the next 5% contributed per paycheck. This means if you contribute at least 6% you will receive 3.5% as match. Those deemed HCE (highly compensated employee) will be limited to a maximum of $4,000 annually. Vesting of the match is 100% after 2-years of service.Contribute enough to maximize the employer match that you can receive. Note that match is calculated on the total % you contribute per check and doesn’t matter if you are contributing all pretax, all Roth or combination of the two.
