Through the United Rentals 401(k) Plan, you may save for retirement on a pretax and/or Roth (post-tax) basis, up to annual IRS 401(k) plan limits. You may begin contributing at any time once you become eligible by making contributions to your account through convenient payroll deductions. You may make % election before your first 30 days are up and Principal will retain and report over once you’re eligible to contribute. You may elect in whole percentages from 1-80% and changes to election are allowed at any time. If you are a nonunion employee and don’t take action to elect a % you are subject to auto enrollment.
Visit principal.com/welcome to access your account online. First time users click the “Get Started” button and follow prompts to establish account. Returning users click the “Login” button and enter your username/password. Note that United Rentals does not assign, nor has access to view usernames, passwords or security answers. Thus if you experience issues getting connected you will have to call Principal at 800-547-7754 to speak with a rep. If prompted for a plan/contract number provide 457188.
About Your 401(k) | |

Auto-Enrollment | Non-union employees are automatically enrolled in the plan after 30 days of employment, at a pretax contribution rate of 4% of eligible pay (unless take action to elect otherwise). |
Auto-Escalation | If auto enrolled, your contribution rate increases 1% every April 1 until you reach 15% (unless you take action to elect otherwise). |
United Rentals Contributions | For non-union employees United Rentals matches your contribution dollar-for-dollar for the first 1%, and matches $0.50 for each dollar you contribute for the next 5%. Highly Compensated Employees are capped at $4,000 annually from UR. Vesting of this match is 100% after 2 years of service. |
